Can we nominate tie-in novels for franchises whose main canon is in a non-book medium? I know there are a lot of tie-in novels (especially for crime/mystery TV shows) that are essentially just officially licensed casefic that uses the same characters as the non-book canon, and I totally understand wanting to exclude those. But other tie-in novels (mostly for video games) are more about fleshing out the worldbuilding and have completely different characters not in the main canon, or at least focus on minor characters from the main canon.
I personally feel that the latter group still fits in the overall spirit of this exchange, but I understand if you don't want to bother trying to figure out whether a specific nominated tie-in qualifies. Though I for one would be willing to make a Yuletide-style fandom eligibility/evidence comment for you to based your decision on.
